During my externship in Taiwan I gained a lot of experience about the Taiwanese dental care, which I found very well organised, developed and patient-centric. On my opinion these factors are contributing to the even successful treatments. Dentists in Taiwan seem to lay emphasis on the prevention of dental disease like oral cancer, which seems to be a significant problem in this country. Students also help the professors in this prevention program by giving instuctions to patients, and on the other hand their experience that they acquire during they internship will be an advantage in their future carrier.

I found it very convenient, that the documentation of the treatments runs in English, which helps the students to get familiar with the English dental terms, and thus they can easier follow and understand the quick development of dentistry all over the world. Fortunalety, I could observe many interesting treatments, and I could highlight 2 of them. For the first time in my studies, I could attend to a mandibular resection operation under general anesthesia in the hospital in Taichung. Second of all, I could observe a bone grafting operation combined with PRF in the Department of Periodontology with the newest and best technique. I liked it very much, since I am interested in this field of dentistry. I have good impressions about the Orthodontics Department too, and as an observer it seems like that it plays a significant role in the dental education, since many students who we asked are interested in this field. During my externship I also had the chance to learn about the Taiwanese culture. Due to our recipients we explored the Taiwanese cuisine, and learned about traditions, health care system and the daily life of Taiwanese people. As far as I am concerned, I hope that other students will have the chance to visit this university in order to gain experience. I want to thank for everyone for the hospitality at the Chung Shan University!
